PICTURES: When Nana Addo test-drove Kantanka Vehicle during campaign and Aftermath of 2 years in power

In 2016, the Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Danquah Akuffo Addo paid a visit to the manufacturing site of the founder and leader of the Kristo Asafo Mission of Ghana,  Apostle Ing. Dr. Kwadwo Safo Kantanka, also known as African Star, at Gomoa-Mpota in the Central Region of Ghana.

The President of Ghana, then 2016 flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party together, now the ruling government, with Hon Adwoa Safo who is the MP of Dome-Kwabenya Constituency and now the President of Procurment and also the daughter of the Apostle visited the Kantanka Automobile Company Limited at Gomoa-Mpota to appreciate the great works of the Apostle and his workers.

Nana Addo who was hoping to win the 2016 presidential elections had tour the site of the Apostle to acknowledge his technological innovations and creativity in the field of science and technology. The then flagbearer, Nana Akuffo Addo took the opportunity to test-drive one of the assembled vehicles, Kantanka Omama, a pick-up, which had been assembled right here in Ghana by the Kantanka Automobile Company limited. The price of the vehicles which can be found here is hoping to be moderate as hoped by many Ghanaians in order for the average Ghanaian to own one some day.

Nana Akuffo Addo also congratulated the Apostle and his workers for their efforts of putting Ghana on the map of automobile manufacturers in the world. He made known to the people who had gathered during his visit that he will be buying some of the cars for his 2016 campaign.

Nana Addo also took the opportunity to meet the Apostle and promised him of his support if he is able to win the 2016 presidential elections.

AFTERMATH OF 2 YEARS IN POWER

Thomas Schaefer, Head of the Sub-Saharan Region and the Honorable Minister of Trade and Industry, Alan Kyerenmaten of Ghana signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in the presence of Angela Merkel, Chancellor of Germany and Mahamudu Bawumia, Vice-President of the Republic of Ghana to establishing a vehicle assembly facility and to assess the feasibility of a modern Mobility Concept for Ghana.

This would also include developing a fully-fledged sales and service network in Ghana as well as establishing a Training Academy for Production and After Sales.

Volkswagen undertook to commence with a feasibility study for an integrated mobility solution which will include a review of the commercial viability of introducing car sharing, ride hailing and shuttle services by way of a Ghanaian subsidiary of VWSA, or the appointment of a local service provider.

In turn, the Ghanaian Government undertook to develop a comprehensive Automotive Industry Policy which will insentience and facilitate vehicle manufacturing and assembly in Ghana. This includes a preferential procurement policy for locally assembled vehicles.

President Akufo-Addo added: “I assure Volkswagen and its local assembler in Ghana of the full support of government in creating an enabling environment and incentive framework to make their investment a major success.”
