Environmental pollution is one the world’s greatest problems. Environmental pollution is on the rise each passing day, week, month and year with little being done to help remedy the situation which has caused irreparable damage to the earth. The common environmental we know are air, water, soil, noise and light.
It is a known fact that the burning of car tires has tremendous effect on the air we breathe, water we drink, food we eat and other serious health hazards that results in the emission of dangerous toxics from the burning of tyres.
There are over 2million scrap tyres in Ghana that are not used for any purpose other than being burnt to retrieve steel to serve as raw materials or used to burn the fur of livestock.
This act has health implications in the long run. The effects of Air pollution are alarming, as its known to create several respiratory and heart conditions along with cancer, among other threats to the body.
Burning tyres releases dark, thick smoke that contains cyanide, carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide and products of butadiene and styrene. Extinguishing tire fires is difficult.
Significant amounts of liquids and solids containing dangerous chemicals can be generated by burning tyres. These products can pollute soil, surface water, and ground water and care must be taken to properly manage these impacts as well.
In order to reduce this significant amount of toxic being released into the atmosphere, NAT Recycling Company Limited, a waste recycling company limited has added a project aimed at recycling Tyres into useful furniture and sound systems.
Now waste Tyres can be useful in the homes, schools, hotels and other recreational centers other than being seen as mere trash waiting to set ablaze on fire.
NAT Recycling Company limited is able to produce beautiful furniture from waste tyres which could be useful both indoors and outdoors décor to help reduce the burning of tyres in the country.
The company led by former graduate from University of Cape Coast and a trainee at the Apostle Safo Science and Technology Research Centre (Apostle Safo Suay3 Centre) is dedicated to inspire the world using entrepreneurial skills and knowledge gained from Safo Kantanka to solve waste issues such as plastics, coconut shells and car tyres by recycling these waste components into consumer friendly products and creating employment for skillful and talented youth in Ghana and beyond.
