Just before the clock struck midnight last Thursday, the countdown started 10, 9, 8, 7,6,5,4,3,2,1,0 followed by a thunderous applause as Efya’s debut album, Janesis was officially launched at Plot 7 Lounge at Nyaniba Estates, Accra.
The first copy of the album was bought at $15,000 dollars by a fan who wants to remain anonymous.
And when comedian, DKB, who was the host on the night, joined Efya on stage, it was obviously a proud moment for the musician who sported a knee length mustard coloured dress.
“At long last, our baby Janesis has arrived and with joy, we have received its glorious birth,” Efya said.
It has been a long journey for Efya who came third at the maiden edition of Stars of The Future music reality show when she was then known as Jane.
The name, which Efya described as the “genesis of my journey” inspired the title of the Janesis album.
“Well, until Efya, there was Jane and Jane began this whole thing before Efya surfaced. As such, the title of the album is to capture the essence of my beginnings and how far I have come in the game.
“ I’m excited finally we are launching my album Janesis which means I’ve just started. When you keep winning you tend to forget you don’t have an album.
“The album has every genre of music to suit our different tastes and that was the aim of the project,” she stated.
Some of the songs on the 19-track album are Forgetting Me, Heart Beat, Can I, I Try, Hele Mi, Boy Be Beh Gye, Once Upon a Time, Sometimes, Make I love You, Ooh Ooh and Life.
Mr Jimmy Davis, CEO of One Nation Entertainment, managers of Efya, praised Ghanaians for the support in the “journey so far” when he welcomed guests in an address.
Patrons had the opportunity to take photographs with Efya after buying a copy of the album which was autographed by the artiste.
Kwaw Kese, Jupiter, Reggie Rockstone, Akumaa Mamazimbi, Trigmatic, Dr.Duncan, Bola Ray, Lady Jay and model Victoria Micheals were some of the popular faces who graced the launch which ended in the early hours of Friday.
