2018 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) just ended, see full list of winners

The 2018 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) has just ended a couple of hours ago. As it happens every year, there are surprises, great performances and shocking moments when the name of winners of the various categories are mentioned.

This year was no exception, below is the full list of the 2018 VGMA Award Winners.

  • Artiste of the Year – Ebony Reigns
  • Album of the Year – Bonyfied – Ebony
  • Song of the Year – Total Cheat (Fancy Gadam)
  • Best New Artiste of the Year – Kuame Eugene
  • Record of the Year – Teephlow (State of the Art)
  • African Artiste of the Year – Davido
  • Best Female Vocalist of the Year – Adina
  • Best Male vocalist of the Year – Joe Mettle
  • Best Music Video  – Phamous – George Gyimah (Captain Planet’s Obi agye obi girl video)
  • Best Group of the Year – Wutah
  • Best Rapper of the Year – Sarkodie
  • Best Collaboration of the Year – Shatta Wale (Taking Over)
  • Reggae/Dance Hall Artiste of the Year – Stonebwoy
  • Song Writer of the Year – Bullet (Ebony’s Maame Hwe)
  • Hiplife/Hip-pop Artiste of the Year – Sarkodie
  • Highlife Artiste of the Year – Kuame Eugene
  • Gospel Artiste of the Year – Joe Mettle
  • Highlife Song of the Year – Kidi (Odo)
  • Afro Pop Song of the Year – Ebony (Sponsor)
  • Hiplife Song of the Year – Fancy Gadam ft. Sarkodie (Total Cheat) 
  • Reggae Dancehall of the Year – Samini (My Own)
  • Hip Pop Song of the Year – Kwesi Arthur (Grind day)
  • Gospel Song of the Year –  Joe Mettle (Bo noo ni)
  • 2018 VGMA Lifetime Achievement Award – Naa Amanua Dodoo of Wulomei Group 
  • Instrumentalist of the Year – Dominic Quashie 
  • Best Traditional Music Group – Amamreso Music and Dance Ensemble


As usual, Joe Mettle started the performance with his popular gospel song to shower God’s blessings on the programme.

Nana Yaa, daughter of highlife legend, Pat Thomas and Naa Amanua Dodoo of Wulomei, 2018 VGMA Lifetime Achievement award winner, who warmed the stage for the night before things started getting “warmer”.

Naa Amanua who started singing at age 10 after receiving her lifetime award was joined by Nana Yaa to perform a fantastic vocal from both artistes.

Stonebwoy from Zylofon Media also shook the stage and started heating up the audiences for performers such as Kidi, King Promise, Kuame Eugene, Tiwa Savage, Samini and Praye group.

Things got hotter when Ghana’s best rapper, Sarkodie mounted the stage to perform most of his popular songs. The event ended successfully with the late Ebony Reigns picking this year’s VGMA Artiste of the year.
