Free solar lamps to be distributed to rural communities by an NGO

A Non-Governmental Organisation has taken delivery of 20,000 pieces of solar lamps for distribution to rural communities in the country.

The multi-purpose lamps, which are being distributed by Norgrains Nokero Sunergi free of charge, are to assist rural communities not connected to the national grid to have access to electricity for domestic and outdoor activities.

The first batch of 3,000 pieces of the lamp will be distributed to rural homes, mosques, churches and schools, medical and security personnel in remote areas in the north eastern corridor of the country.

The Chief Executive officer of Norgrains Nokero Sunergi, Mr Wumpini Sulemana Maltiba, who is supervising the distribution, urged philanthropists and corporate organisations to also extend their support to deprived rural communities in the country to improve the living conditions of the poeple.


Mr Maltiba paid tribute to 30 prominent Muslims, some posthumously, for their service to mankind and their respective communities.

He indicated that the names of those distinguished persons had been embossed on the lamps to serve as encouragement to others to also support worthy causes.

They are the National Chief Imam, Alhaji Nuhu Sharubutu; Sheikh Ibrahim Anyaas, Sheik Baba Gomda, Sheikh Ibrahim Bashah, Alhaji Yusif Ajurah, Maulvi Wahab Adam, Sheikh Umar, Chief Imam of Haali Sunnah, Alhaji Abu Jajah, Alhaji Sulemana (Mei Bicycle), Alhaji Adamu of Global Haulage Royal Bank, Alhaji Sulemana (Sulana Electricals), Imam Amadu Hussein and Alhaji Majeed Hussein, former General Manager Islamic Education Unit.

The rest are Shehu Mei Kano, Imam Rashid Karachie, Sheikh Mustapha Ibrahim of ICHDS, and Dr Mohammed Ibrahim, Talal Fatal of Metro TV, Hajia Mariam of Tamale, Alhaji Norgah, Abdul Jalil, former CEO of Japan Motors, Alhaji A. R. Accad, CEO Auto Parts and CEO of Abagna Motors.
