Brong Ahafo Queen Mothers chase Sir John to apologise to First Lady, Lordina Mahama

Queen mothers in the Brong Ahafo Region have called on a former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie to immediately apologise to First Lady Lordina Mahama for linking her to the DKM microfinance mess.

According to the queen mothers, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie has alleged that President John Mahama and his wife have used the money generated from the microfinance to house the ex- Guantanamo Bay detainees in the country.

The queen mothers recently invoked curses on people who tried to link First Lady Lordina Mahama to collapsed microfinance institutions in the region. Mrs Mahama has been installed a development queen at Nkoranza.

According to the queen mothers, Lawyer Owusu Afriyie popularly known as Sir John attacked them on an Accra-based radio station for rising up to defend the first lady.

Owners of the Brong Ahafo-based DKM and other microfinance companies have been accused of swindling their clients of several millions of cedis. Some of its management members are in custody for failing to give back savings of their numerous clients.

There has been persistent speculation in the Brong Ahafo region that the first family is behind the company, but President John Mahama in a recent encounter with the media at the Flagstaff House dismissed the rumours.

“I don’t know (the owner of) DKM from Adam, my wife doesn’t know DKM from Adam. I only got to see him in the papers today after his arrest by the BNI but yet we are being linked to him.

”…If anybody promises I will give you 50 percent interest on your money, just know that he’s fooling you,” the President stated.

At a news conference in Sunyani the queen mothers, numbering about 300, demanded an apology from Sir John for allegedly tarnishing the image of the first lady.

Spokesperson for the Queen Mothers Association in the Brong Ahafo region, Nana Akosua Kumi told Adom News: “First Lady Lordina Mahama does not have anything to do with the microfinances in our region so please stop politicizing the issue and come out to apologise to our mother”.
